How we handle your details.

J & B Machinery Hire is an owner-operated machinery hire and earthworks business run by Ben Anderson & Jessica Goulding. This notice explains what personal information we collect through this website and by phone, why we collect it, and how we look after it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

When you send an enquiry or booking request we collect your name, phone number and email address, the suburb and (if you choose to give it) the address of the job, a description of the work, your preferred dates and contact method, and any photos or plans you attach.

We also record the date and time of your request, a reference number, and technical details such as the page you came from and a hashed form of your IP address, which we use to prevent spam and abuse.

We don’t collect payment card details through this website.

To respond to your request, quote the job, schedule the hire or service, deliver and collect equipment, and keep a record of the work we did for you.

To send you a confirmation that we’ve received your request. This is a transactional message, not marketing.

If you opt in, to occasionally send you updates and offers. You can opt out at any time and opting out doesn’t affect your hire.

To meet our legal obligations, resolve disputes and keep our records accurate.

Photos you upload are stored privately and are only seen by us. We automatically remove embedded location and device data (EXIF) from uploaded images.

We sometimes photograph completed work for our project diary. We only publish those photos with the site owner’s consent, we don’t publish addresses unless you approve it, and we blur number plates and any identifying details before anything goes online.

We don’t sell or rent personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the business — for example our email provider, website hosting and accounting software — and only to the extent needed to do their job. We may disclose information where the law requires it.

We keep enquiry and booking records for as long as needed to provide the service and meet our record-keeping obligations, then delete or de-identify them. You can ask us to delete your details at any time; we’ll do so unless we’re required to keep them.

Information is stored on access-controlled systems. Public uploads are size-limited and re-encoded before storage, administrative access is password-protected and logged, and we review access regularly. No system is perfectly secure, so if you’re concerned about a particular detail, call us rather than typing it into a form.

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Call 0477 619 318 and quote your reference number if you have one. If you’re not happy with how we handle a complaint you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

This site uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep the booking form working and to protect the admin area. We don’t use advertising cookies. If we add analytics, we’ll use a privacy-respecting configuration and update this notice.
