J&B Machinery Hire
FAQ

Questions

Straight answers, before you ask.

How hire works, what a request does and doesn't do, and what to expect on the day.

Wet vs dry hire

What's the difference between wet and dry hire?
Wet hire is the machine with one of us operating it — you describe the outcome and we do the work. Dry hire is the excavator or skid steer on its own, for you to operate. Both are available.
Which equipment is wet hire only?
The Isuzu tipper truck. It always comes with an operator. The Kubota U17-3 and Toyota Huski 5 are available either way.
What dry-hire periods do you offer?
24-hour, weekend (Friday to Sunday) and weekly (Monday to Sunday) periods on the excavator and skid steer. Exact times and inclusions are confirmed when we quote.

Requests and quotes

Does submitting a request book the machine?
No. A request tells us about your job and preferred dates. We review it, check availability and come back with a quote. Nothing is reserved until we confirm it with you directly.
Why aren't prices on the website?
Because what a job costs depends on the machine, the period, the operator time, the attachments, transport and any materials or disposal. We'd rather quote the real job than publish a number that needs an asterisk.
How do I accept a quote?
Reply to the quote, or call us. We'll confirm the dates and anything we need from you before the day.
What's your reference number for?
Every request gets a reference like JB-ENQ-2026-00042. Quote it if you call about the request.

Attachments, delivery and the day

Which attachments come with the machine?
The attachments listed on each equipment page are the ones we carry for that machine. Which come out on your job, and whether any carry an extra charge, is set out in the quote.
Do you deliver?
Transport to and from your site is arranged as part of the quote.
What do you need from me on site?
Clear access, someone we can talk to, and a heads-up about anything underground or overhead — pipes, cables, septic, irrigation. For wet hire we'll assess the site when we arrive and raise anything that needs sorting before we start.
Is a customer request a safety assessment?
No. The form helps us quote and plan. Site risks, underground services, operator licensing and insurance responsibilities are confirmed by us separately before work starts.

Availability and location

How do I know if a machine is available?
Ask. The site shows "Ask about availability" rather than a live calendar because confirmed hires, maintenance and transport all move things around. We'll confirm your dates when we respond.
Where do you work?
Tell us where the job is when you request a booking and we'll confirm whether it's within the area we cover.

Still unsure? Describe the job and we'll answer with a recommendation.
